10th Annual Brownlow Medal Lunch

19th September 2012 the 10th Anniversary of the AFL Xmen’s
Brownlow Medal Lunch

Courtesy of the MCG
and there is no better place to hold a 10 year celebration than the home of
Australian Rules Football the “MCG”.

I’m Ron O’Dwyer: I started the Brownlow Medal Luncheon in 2002. Yes, the original.

Whilst there may be a few Brownlow Medal Luncheon’s around today, hosted by others in the football world, this event is the original.

What started as, a one off pre-Brownlow Medal luncheon 'event', to raise funds for former VFL/AFL players too receive medical treatment from past football injuries: This has become an annual event, hosting many top corporations, football icons, stunning venues, major sponsors and has raised funds for not only past players football injuries but also, sponsorships for junior football clubs and leagues, indigenous communities, impoverished children, flood victims, fire victims and so much more.

I’m not surprised this event has expanded into 10 years with other hybrid Brownlow Medal lunches following.

The original Brownlow Medal lunch 2002

What makes this event so important, is it humble beginnings and its philanthropic generosity, from everyone involved.

Today you may be sick and tired of hearing about football player’s injuries and wages, nor do you associate the need to be generously philanthropic to a footballer’s injury, most AFL Players today are adequately looked after, this was most certainly not the case back in 2002, or any time in the history of VFL/ AFL.

To be continued....please check back
